About me
Dawn Howard graduated from Ashford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She is a performing artist, inspirational speaker, poet, playwright, and songwriter. Dawn is a member of the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She serves as an officer on the board of the social change organization, SCARS (Second Chance at Renewing Self) and as a volunteer for the Carol Adams Foundation Incorporated. She is an active member of Faith and Family Church and serves in the Rhema Poetry and ACTS Drama Ministries. Most importantly, she is a survivor of intimate partner violence who has heard and answered the call of
God on her life. She is also the founder of Purposeful Expressions which ministers through artistic expression. Dawn not only exposes intimate partner violence and sexual assault through her original dramatic works, she also shares the word of God through her powerful dramatizations and spoken word as well. The presentations may include poetry, theater, music, art, and dance as well as a brief workshop. Dawn has partnered with several universities, community programs, churches, and domestic violence agencies to further her message through compositions which are not only entertaining, but educational as well. Most recently, she released her CD, Purposeful Expressions Volume1. This poetic
masterpiece is meant to encourage someone with the word of God through any storms that may arise. Dawn was recently featured in a stage play called "Form of A Redeemed Sinner." Currently, she is engaged in various projects including organizing and hosting a monthly inspirational talent showcase called Soulfood Sunday and touring her one-woman play Purple Storms. The play is infused with various forms of artistic expression and is a powerful testimony of healing and true love. Dawn believes that one person can make a difference and hopes that she will make a difference to all touched by her dramatic works and spoken word. She currently resides in Chesterfield, VA.
